biography

Current:
Dave has been touring and recording with the Dixie Dregs and the Steve Morse Band since 1988, and has just completed two tours with the Dregs. When not working with the Morse band, LaRue is keeping busy working with other artists, including Dream Theater's John Petrucci, Vinnie Moore, and the L.A. based band Planet X. In December, Dave did tracks for Petrucci's solo CD, which will be released later in 2002. He has also released through his web site his book of transcriptions, titled "Dave LaRue: On the Record", and is working on wrapping up his second solo record. He is also writing, playing and producing for various artists in the central Florida area.

Dave will be touring the world in 2002 with the Steve Morse Band in support of their new release "Split Decision", and expects to tour with John Petrucci upon the release of his solo CD.

Education is a big part of Dave’s career, so he will continue to write his instructional column for Bass Player magazine (for whom he also serves as a member of the Advisory Board), do clinics nationally for the Ernie Ball - Music Man Co., and teach privately in the Orlando area when his schedule permits. Dave is an adjunct professor at Stetson University in Florida. He has also done seminars at the National Music Expo’s and at the National Guitar Summer Workshop in Connecticut.
In addition, Dave will be doing a second instructional video, to follow up his internationally released Warner Bros. video, “Essentials”, as well as a bass method book.
